Franks was drafted by the Barcelona Dragons of the WLAF in 1991 and also attended the Los Angelas Rams training camp in 1992. The expansion Sacremento Goldmners signed Franks in March of 1993 and he played 10 games for them that season with t hree interceptions before being released on November 30. Franks signed with the Shrevport Pirates for the 1994 season, appearing in just 2 games before being released in October of 1994. Franks was resigned by Sacremento and played 4 games for them in 1994 and then 15 with the team when it moved to San Antonio for 1995. Franks was drafted in the seventh round of the US teams dispersal draft by Edmonton.
